Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Toronto Trails Festival?
The Toronto Trails Festival is a month of celebrations to encourage Torontonians and tourists to enjoy the many health and social benefits of walking and hiking on the world-class system of trails in Toronto.
How do you participate?
Participation is free and open to all who wish to share in the joys of walking and hiking in the great outdoors. All you need to do is register online for the walks you want to explore. Online registration closes at 4:30 pm on the Friday before each walk.
What should I bring?
Good walking shoes or boots are recommended, as is a hat. A small backpack with rain gear, water, sunscreen, and an apple or two is also good to have.
Can I bring my dog?
It's complicated - unfortunately no dogs are allowed. In fact some of our Trails do not allow dogs.
Are there different levels of difficulty?
Walking Levels are determined by Distance / Speed / Terrain
Level #1 - 7/8k @ 3km/ hour - relatively flat terrain
Level #2 8-15k @4km/hour - some hilly terrain
Level #3 15k plus @5km/hour
Why is online registration important?
By registering in advance, you provide us with information that we use to make decisions such as whether we need more hike leaders or supplies and to adapt each walk appropriately for maximum success and fun.
